Actor Mandy Patinkin is outspoken about his liberal views but his latest political screed may have crossed the line.
In an interview on Friday's MTP Daily on MSNBC to promote the latest season of Showtime's "Homeland", Patinkin suggested that 'white men' in government and the military might be the real "bad guys", not the Muslim community. Patinkin made his comment while discussing the show's latest storyline, which is more sympathetic to Muslims than previous seasons.
"We have tried to be part of the cure, not part of the problem," Patinkin told Todd. "A different story line where we're helping these people and a story line that shows in this case, in this year, in this season and -- that maybe it's the -- and it is white men in the government and the military establishment that are the bad guys, not the Muslim community."
Patinkin went on to suggest that the government chose to "vilify" Muslims because of the "monumental" contributions they've made to the world.
"It's the oldest trick in the book. I find someone to vilify. In movies, it was cowboys and Indians and the Nazis, Communists, you know," Patinkin said. "Now, they've chosen the Muslim community -- a community who's made contributions to the world of a monumental nature."
